rEvolution has held its internship program, the Development League, to the highest standard, particularly in the past few years. When Covid-19 forced the company into a remote workforce in March, it became uncertain how to hold an effective internship program. As the business world wrestled with how to quickly adapt, many companies reluctantly announced pull back of various internships and student programs. Always one to take the path less traveled, rEvolution remained steadfast in its commitment to championing the next generation of sports marketing leaders.

Through a collaborative process, led by VP of Talent, Daina Gjemre, Talent Coordinator, Brooke Reinhart, SVP of Media Services, Jason Haddad, and Client Services Manager, Michael Begel, a new internship experience was born. Recognizing the challenges upcoming and new grads would face, it was important to build a program that would offer significant benefit to students by providing them as much real-world experience and learnings as possible, helping to position them for a competitive job market during and after the Covid-19 era.

“During a year of unforeseen obstacles, I am proud to see our team continue to embody our core value of ‘We Put People First,’” said John Rowady, President & Founder, rEvolution. “We have created a revolutionary internship program that provides benefit for an incredibly talented internship class in an unprecedented year of challenges. Part of my legacy is to help the next generation of sports marketers break in to a really challenging and exciting business.”

A 100% virtual program throughout summer and fall of 2020, the program reached 12 students from diverse colleges and backgrounds. Not only did the program include unparalleled access to executive leadership and sports marketing experts, but day-to-day sports marketing experience on simulated client programs and a capstone case study project. Each class has been able to fully immerse themselves into the rEvolution culture, building relationships as well as further developing their creative, business, team and management skills in an agency setting.

“rEvolution isn’t just an integrated sports marketing agency, it’s a community. The mentorship program allowed me to learn from this incredible community of industry leaders,” said Nicole Cruz, Fall 2020 mentee. “I am so thankful for my experience as I was able to grow as a professional, teammate and leader.”

Brooke Reinhart and Michael Begel are both passionate about continuing to evolve the program into a gold standard that is valuable for everyone. A former intern himself before starting full-time at rEvolution, Michael is excited to be able to pay the opportunity forward to these aspiring sports business leaders, noting, “It’s been very fulfilling to be able to bring the rEvolution team together to provide these mentees a great experience, especially during a difficult time in our industry.”

Brooke agrees, adding, “As a growing organization, we’re always looking for rock stars to join our team, and this program has been a great way to build relationships that may ultimately turn into job opportunities for our mentees one day. It has been one of my favorite parts of my job.”
